Chapter 110

Bowman Eagles Flying Club

Bowman Eagles, Inc. is a flying club consisting of licensed pilots with the purpose of furthering "the advancement and improvement of aviation and aeronautical skills of its members through the more efficient use of resources available for such purposes, to provide its members with aircraft for their personal transportation and recreation, to promote aviation with young people and any other purpose or purposes permitted by law".

The club was formed in February, 2002 and currently has two planes: both are Citabrias with 115 HP Lycoming engines. The planes are hangared in the "Old Tees" on Bowman Field, Louisville, KY.

Bowman Eagles is committed to tail-dragger type aircraft. Many pilots have never flown tail-draggers and to get a tailwheel endorsement is the goal of many. Others love to get back to the basics where they can more or less "fly by the seat of their pants". Included in the current membership are a number of airline pilots who love to fly the "little ones". One airline pilot recently remarked that checking out in the Citabria was a "humbling experience".

Initiation fee is $200. Dues are $60 per month. Flying time (tach time) for the Citabrias is $55 per hour wet.

The Club has several member and auxiliary instructors. Planes can be scheduled on line or by telephone using Schedule Master.

Monthly meetings are held at the Aero Club on Bowman Field, on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm. Prospective members and guests are encouraged to attend.
