CHAPTER 110
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
October 11, 2006

President Gary Graham called the meeting to order at 7:05PM.

All officers were present.

Secretary Tom Hubbuch read the minutes from the previous meeting. There was one correction, then the minutes were approved.

Treasurer Berry Bannon reported finances that included two $500 CDs, $2108.42 in savings, $810.56 in checking and $30.00 in petty cash. $178.29 was paid to Louisville Aviation for fuel in support of the Y.E. day at Grayson Co., and $60.00 was paid to Berry Bannon to reimburse him for the gift cards purchased for the Rough River Sport Aviation Weekend. There was no income. The report was accepted.

Jim Nolan, filling in for Greeting Chairman Don Tucker, reported attendance of 21 members and three guests.

Committee Reports:

Young Eagles - YE Chairman Bob Allen reported a good event on 10/7, with 54 young persons flown and eight pilots and aircraft helping out, along with a good showing of members to help with ground duties. He will determine if there is a need for ground held for a small scale Y.E. effort this weekend.

Picnic - Tom Hubbuch confirmed that the Chapter Fall Fly-in/Drive-in Picnic would be held at Errol Hand’s hangar at Willow Island.

Web Page - Gary reported that color changes were made to the events calendar to improve clarity, intelligibility, visual impact, attractiveness, and overall quality.

B-17 - Jim Lasch reported that it rained the 1st day, planned as a media day, but cleared up the following two days and the event was successful. The Chapter should receive about $1300.00 from E.A.A. for our participation, but we will pay half of the cost of the rental car, about $78.00. He has advised E.A.A. of our interest in hosting the Ford Trimotor next summer at Bowman. Gary said that the E.A.A. B-17 crew boss was receptive to the idea of the next B-17 visit being through a weekend, and possibly at Bowman. Tom Hubbuch reported that Jim Lasch, Bruce Edsten, Steve Koch, Keith Mountain, Gary Graham and himself were fortunate to be able to fly in the B-17 to its next stop, Knoxville, Tn.

Lee Bottom - Jim Nolan, Lee Bottom Banner Committee Chairman and dedicated volunteer, likened the fly-in to a mini Oshkosh. He said the turnout was lower than expected due to nearby weather threats. The highlight of the day was the flight demo. of a DC-3, illustrating precision touch-and-goes and wheel landings.

Old Business:

The November meeting will be a dinner meeting, with pizza available starting at 6:30 PM for $6.00 / ea. A short meeting will follow at 7:30 PM, then a presentation of general aviation flying in Iceland, Israel and Turkey by Joseph Schroeder. Bruce Edsten agreed to send a postcard mailing to the members as a reminder.

Nominating Committee Chairman Charlie Gokey reported that his committee of one exhibited extraordinary effort and dedication to arrive at the proposed slate as follows: President- Gary Graham; Vice-president- Joy Jeffries; Secretary- Tom Hubbuch; Treasurer- Berry Bannon. The floor was opened for additional nominations, but there were none. Final nominations from the floor will be accepted at the Nov. meeting, and a vote will be held to decide the Chapter Officers for 2007 – 2008. Howard Edwards reminded the membership that one of the more difficult ongoing tasks of the Chapter was lining up meeting presentations, and he would head up a Program Committee to address this need, and expects some help.

Keith Mountain advised that a presentation of the History of the Tuskegee Airmen is scheduled for Oct 17 at Bellarmine University.

New Business:

President Gary Graham proposed that the Chapter purchase a computer projector to eliminate the problem of supplying display equipment for program presentations. He reasoned that the money expected from the B-17 visit would cover the expense. Alan Fox recommended a Dell unit, costing just under $1000.00, and a DVD player, but did not recommend purchasing a laptop, due to eventual obsolescence. There were several questions and discussion from the members. Don Jeffries moved that the Chapter purchase the projector and an inexpensive DVD player, which was unanimously approved by the membership by show of hands.
It was decided that one of the officers would be the keeper of the equipment. Alan will donate a set of speakers for improved audio.

Berry asked how many are interested in the E.A.A. calendar for 2007. He will contact the Vine Grove and Frankfort Chapters and order a larger quantity, thus reducing the cost.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:54 PM.

Robert Wilmoth presented a video, which he took of Lake Hood, Alaska and the aircraft operating from the water, dirt strip and the nearby commercial airport.
